Principal's Note

Dear LPS families,

What a fun night last night watching our Varsity Boys win their district semi-final basketball game! We are so proud of the boys and their hard work, and so thankful for their coaches and their expertise and support for our players. And… our crowd was huge!

Don’t forget to join that Comet Crowd for our upcoming games:

Friday, February 28, 7 pm @ Suttons Bay: Boys Basketball District Finals game

Wednesday, March 5, 7 pm @ Frankfort: Girls Basketball District Semi-Finals game

In other news, I often hear parents ask about how they can communicate plan changes with their students during the school day. Today I want to make sure you know about our office procedures for end-of-day changes.

When a student has a change to their regular plan, parents can call the office to let us know. We then fill out a bright yellow pass for that student that lets them and their teacher know about the change. This yellow pass also allow students to travel on a bus, and is the only note that bus drivers will accept in order to transport a student.

Check out the example note below, and don’t hesitate to reach out to the office (231) 256-9857 if your student needs to get a message from you during the day.

As usual, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions: sfehrenbach@lelandschool.com or (231) 256-3802.

Adalee Wins Silver at FCCLA Competition (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America)

"I won silver for professional presentation. My project was about the importance of music and theater in schools and how they help with a child’s development (language skills, emotional intelligence, brain development, and physical development). I also talked about how budget cuts have affected these programs, as they are usually the first to be cut when money gets tight. I advocated for the music and theater programs as well." - Adalee

Walkathon Fundraiser for Guatemala Trip

Description: This fundraiser is being organized to support a group of students from Leland Public School who are raising funds for a cultural and educational trip to Guatemala through the LPS World Learning Club. The goal of this walkathon is to walk the 6,000,000 steps it takes to get from Leland, MI to Guatemala City, Guatemala! As of today there are 39 days left until departure, and we’re challenging our students to walk as many steps as possible in that time.

How it Works:

  • Participants will track the number of steps they walk each day over the next 39 days.

  • Donors will pledge a certain amount per step or per mile walked.

  • Funds raised will go towards the students' travel expenses, educational activities, and community outreach in Guatemala.

We’re aiming to collectively walk 6,000,000 steps to Guatemala City, and with your support, we can reach our goal while helping the students fund their trip. Thank you for your contribution!
