All grades, mark your calendars for Parent-Teacher Conferences! We will have Semester 2 conferences February 12 and 13, and we love to see 100% of our families at this check-in. 6-12th grade families can pick up report cards at conferences and discuss Semester 2 goals. Elementary families, report cards come home early next week and conferences are a great chance to discuss mid-year progress.

Conference Times

Wednesday: 1:30-2:30, 2:30-3:30, teacher break, 4:30-5:30, 5:30-6:30, 6:30-7:30

Thursday: 1:30-2:30, 2:30-3:30, teacher break, 4:30-5:30, 5:30-6:30

Elementary conferences take place in classrooms and are 15-minute conferences. Middle school and high school teachers conduct conferences in the Legacy gym, and spots are limited for each time slot. Keep an eye on your email and text messages for the link to sign up!

January is School Board Appreciation Month and Heather Cook, Amanda Johnson, and the PTO’s Appreciation Committee honored our School Board members with a Charcuterie Board gathering before their monthly meeting this past Monday night. THANK YOU to the Brugeman, Clark, Johnson, Hogan, Keen, Mork, Petty, Reutter, Rothwell, Suttmann, and Ulrich families for contributing meats, cheeses, and other snacks to be sure that members of Leland’s School Board know just how grateful parents are for their service. Book Club: Monday, February 3 at 7 pm in the HS Media Center

In the final section of The Anxious Generation, author Jonathan Haidt proposes a number of solutions that governments, tech companies, schools, and parents can take to combat the rising mental health crisis observed in teens and adolescents following the widespread adoption of smart phones and social media.

Join us after the February PTO meeting for a discussion about these proposed solutions and how they can be implemented in our school community. All are welcome to participate, and if you missed the last meeting, click here to view a presentation highlighting key statistics from the second section of the book. If you haven't had a chance to read the book, click here for a podcast with the author. We hope to see you there!

It is the time of year that head lice can spread easily. Please review this information regarding head lice treatment.

The Snow Co Dance is rescheduled to SATURDAY FEBRUARY 8th.

The snow days this week resulted in sports scheduling conflicts which have influenced a reschedule of Spirit Week and the Snow Co Dance. Everything will be pushed back ONE WEEK.

Spirit Week will start on Monday February 3rd. More details to come.

*Note* there is a basketball game rescheduled for this day as well but it is earlier in the day and players will make it back just in time to attend the dance if they wish. Because of conferences the following week impacting the ability to play spirit week games and the potential for more snow day sports rescheduling to come, the 8th remains the best available day.

Career & Majors Fair 2025

NMC's Career & Majors Fair 2025 will be held on March 6, 2025, at The Park Place Hotel in partnership with Northwest Michigan Works and Networks Northwest.

The event is free and open to the public.

NMC’s annual Career Fair is expanding! For the first time we’ll be offering the NMC Career & Majors Fair where employers will sit side-by-side with faculty from our academic majors to showcase how NMC pathways can lead to employment opportunities in our region. This year’s fair, as in the past, aims to attract current NMC students and community members looking for careers, as well as prospective NMC students and those still deciding on their career path.

From the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation

Our 2025 scholarship applications are now open!

We have more than 100 scholarships available that aim to support the secondary education pursuits of graduating high school seniors, current college students, and vocational/trade school students from across the region.

Students from Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau County and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians are invited to apply by completing our General Scholarship Application.

The General Application will provide students with a list of scholarships for which they may be eligible. Some scholarships may require a separate application or supplemental materials.

Student Scholarships

Cherryland offers three $4,000 ($1,000 for 4 years) college scholarships to high school seniors each year. Selection for the scholarship is based on academics, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Applicant’s parents or legal guardians must be a Cherryland Electric Cooperative member whose primary residence is in Cherryland’s service territory.

• Applicant must be a high school senior with a minimum grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

• To continue to receive the scholarship, the student must maintain a minimum college course load of 12 credits per term and receive a 2.5 grade point average.
